Appreciation – Dr Judith Gadol
by Jane Meagher
With gratitude and appreciation as well as with sadness, we bid farewell to our dear friend and colleague, Dr. Judith Gadol. After fourteen years with Eye Consultants of Northern Virginia and a distinguished career in Ophthalmology, Dr. Gadol has retired from active practice.
Dr. Gadol joined ECNV in 2005 after working in her own practice and at Kaiser Permanente. She brought with her a sense of enthusiasm for her work and a constant concern for the patients whom she felt honored to treat. Her kindness and respect for patients and staff alike made her beloved by all. Everyone enjoyed working with “Dr. Judy” because she was always upbeat and exuberant.
Over her career, Dr. Gadol practiced general ophthalmology and performed anterior segment surgery. She treated thousands of patients in both her office-based and surgical practice. She performed cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation, glaucoma-filtering surgery, eyelid surgery and laser surgeries including YAG Laser Capsulotomy, Iridotomy and Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty. She embraced the many advancements in ophthalmology and offered the most up-to-date technologies to benefit her patients and enrich their lives.
Dr. Gadol pursued her very busy career while raising two children, Robert and Carol, together with her husband, pediatric neurologist Dr. Bennett Lavenstein. In addition, she continued her study of the oboe and performed with the Symphony of the Potomac and the World Doctors Orchestra. Each year she participates in a national summer orchestra program which the staff affectionately calls “band camp”!
ECNV celebrated Dr. Gadol’s retirement at a very appropriate Wonder Woman-themed party! We all agree that, while Gal Gadot might have starred in the movie, Dr. Judy Gadol is the real and original Wonder Woman!
We are grateful for all that Dr. Gadol has contributed to our practice and we wish her every happiness and fulfillment in her retirement.
