It is a bittersweet moment as we say farewell to our very own Dr. Edward Parelhoff, MD. Dr. Parelhoff retires at the end of March after 40 years of service as one of the most respected and well-loved pediatric ophthalmologists in Northern Virginia. He has seen generations of children, from the child turned adult bringing children of their own. His kindness, wry sense of humor and expertise have endeared him to both patients and staff alike.

Dr. Parelhoff joined the practice in 1986. With his partners, the practice expanded to include anterior segment, cornea, glaucoma and pediatric services. Eye Consultants now has nine specialty providers including 3 pediatric ophthalmologists serving the Springfield and Woodbridge communities. Over his career, Dr. Parelhoff treated thousands of children in the community, was a member of the Costenbader society, and was an associate examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology. He was awarded the Ben Goldfeller Award in recognition for his outstanding service and dedication to future ophthalmologists. He also was recognized as a Washingtonian Top Doctor and Northern Virginia Magazine Top Doctor many times over.

Dr. Parelhoff will truly be missed. We hope he spends his time with his passions including his family, grandchildren, gardening, traveling, birding and photography (as evident by the lovely bird photography throughout our pediatric offices). You may also find him around the city at his favorite venues, listening to good music or enjoying a new restaurant.

We are grateful to Dr. Parelhoff and his contribution to our practice and community. We wish him the Best Kind of Adventures in his retirement! Congratulations, Ed Parelhoff, MD!
